The state of New York has enacted a temporary weeklong shutdown of live bird markets in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County after seven cases of avian flu, also known as bird flu, were detected in poultry. Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the importance of the precautionary measure but assured the public that there is currently no immediate threat to human health.
