The Arizona State University football team has made history by becoming the first team from the Pac-12 to win the Big 12 Championship, and in doing so, has secured a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Sun Devils’ dominant 42-10 victory over Iowa State in the championship game was a testament to their strength and resilience, and has sent shockwaves throughout the college football world.
The game got off to a blistering start, with the Sun Devils’ offense scoring on their opening drive. Quarterback Jayden Daniels led the charge, completing 7 of 10 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. The Sun Devils’ running game also got off to a strong start, with running back Rachaad White rushing for 57 yards and a touchdown in the opening quarter.
The Cyclones, however, were not able to muster much offense in the first half. Quarterback Brock Purdy was sacked twice and threw an interception, and the Cyclones were only able to manage 34 total yards of offense in the first quarter. The Sun Devils’ defense was suffocating, holding the Cyclones to just 10 points in the first half.
The second half was more of the same, with the Sun Devils’ offense continuing to roll and the defense shutting down the Cyclones’ attack. Daniels threw for two more touchdowns, and White added another rushing score to put the game out of reach. The Cyclones were only able to manage a field goal in the second half, and the Sun Devils’ 42-10 victory was never in doubt.
The win marks a historic moment for the Sun Devils, who have become the first team from the Pac-12 to win the Big 12 Championship. It also secures their spot in the College Football Playoff, where they will face off against the top teams in the country.
“We’re thrilled to be headed to the College Football Playoff,” said Sun Devils’ head coach Herm Edwards. “Our team has worked incredibly hard all season, and to see them rewarded with a spot in the playoff is a testament to their dedication and perseverance.”
The Sun Devils’ victory also marks a turning point for the program, which has been on the rise in recent years. With the win, the Sun Devils have solidified themselves as one of the top programs in the country, and have set themselves up for success in the years to come.
“I’m so proud of our team and our coaching staff,” said Sun Devils’ athletic director Ray Anderson. “We’ve worked tirelessly to build a program that can compete at the highest level, and to see us achieve that goal is a dream come true.”
The Sun Devils will now turn their attention to the College Football Playoff, where they will face off against the top teams in the country. With their dominant performance in the Big 12 Championship game, they have sent a message to the rest of the country that they are a force to be reckoned with.
