NASA is inviting social media creators to attend the launch of two upcoming missions, providing them with a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of space exploration firsthand. The two missions, SWOT (Surface Water and Ocean Topography) and JPSS-2 (Joint Polar Satellite System-2), are scheduled to launch in November and December 2022, respectively.
The SWOT mission, a collaborative effort between NASA and the French space agency CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales), aims to study the Earth’s surface water and ocean topography. The spacecraft will be equipped with advanced instruments that will enable scientists to measure the height of water surfaces, track ocean currents, and monitor water storage on land. This data will be crucial in understanding the Earth’s water cycle, predicting weather patterns, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The JPSS-2 mission, on the other hand, is a collaborative effort between NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The spacecraft will be equipped with advanced instruments that will enable scientists to monitor the Earth’s weather, climate, and oceans. The data collected by JPSS-2 will be used to improve weather forecasting, track climate patterns, and monitor the health of our oceans.
Social media creators who are selected to attend the launch will have the opportunity to witness the excitement of a rocket launch, tour the Kennedy Space Center, and meet with NASA scientists and engineers. They will also have access to exclusive content, including behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with NASA personnel, and real-time updates on the missions.
To be eligible, social media creators must have a minimum of 1,000 followers on their preferred platform and a track record of creating engaging content related to space exploration, science, or technology. They must also be willing to share their experience with their followers, using a designated hashtag to track the conversation.
This initiative is part of NASA’s ongoing efforts to engage with the public and promote science literacy. By partnering with social media creators, NASA aims to reach a wider audience, inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, and share the excitement of space exploration with the world.
