President Biden to Honor January 6th Committee Leaders with Presidential Citizens Medal

Washington, DC – In an effort to recognize and commend the individuals responsible for shedding light on the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, President Joe Biden is set to award the Presidential Citizens Medal to the leaders of the congressional committee that investigated the attack. This prestigious award, the second-highest civilian accolade in the United States, is bestowed upon those who have performed extraordinary acts of service for their fellow citizens.

The Presidential Citizens Medal, established by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1969, acknowledges civilians who have made an impact on society and demonstrated an enduring commitment to the values of our nation. Its recipients often include individuals who have shown courage, altruism, and self-sacrifice in order to better the lives of their fellow citizens.

The January 6th committee, officially known as the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol, was formed in July 2021 to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes and circumstances of the insurrection that took place on January 6th. The committee, led by Chairman Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney, has been instrumental in uncovering the facts about the attack and exposing those responsible.

The leaders of the committee have faced fierce scrutiny and political backlash for their work, but their unwavering commitment to truth and justice has not wavered. With their investigation drawing to a close, their efforts have outlined the severity and consequences of the attack, which sought to undermine the foundations of American democracy.

Among those who will be receiving the Presidential Citizens Medal are the committee’s chair and vice chair, as well as other key personnel, who were instrumental in leading the investigation. The medal will serve as a tangible representation of the gratitude and appreciation that many Americans have for their work.

The award ceremony is expected to take place in the near future, with the specific date and location to be announced at a later time. In the meantime, the leaders of the January 6th committee continue their work, shedding light on the events that unfurled on January 6th, 2021, and their lasting impact on the United States.
